moving to NextDoor.com

Hello.  I am ending my involvement with the Foster Heights website, Facebook, and Twitter.  If someone wants to pick these social medias up let me know and we can discuss userids, passwords, and procedures for using.

I will be using NextDoor.com and I encourage others to check out this social media site.  We are part of the Rosewood neighborhood group, and there is a site for Rosewood on NextDoor.com.

Thanks,

James

recent home burglaries

In the past few weeks there have been two successful and one unsuccessful burglaries of homes on S. L. Davis between Chestnut and Poquito.  There are a few things we can do to help protect ourselves.

Call the police when suspicious activity is noticed.
Pay attention to the new influx of gangs such as at S. L. Davis and Coleto.
Spray paint over any gang signs (OK to do this per Chief Acevedo).
'Harden' your homes.
Come to the next police community meeting and express your concern.

update on gang tags

A little background on why I think the gang tagging is a big deal and needs to be stopped now.  When the DMI program at 12th and Chicon started showing progress some of the neighbors in Kealing, next door, express worry that this would create a vacuum for a gang to try to take over what was otherwise a disordered group of people preying on the neighborhood.  This is exactly what I do not want to see happen because they will  be harder to extract from the neighborhood.

The 311 incident number for this is 7738.  The police report number is 145001895.  The officer in charge of the investigation is William Lefevre (sp?) at 512-974-8649.  If you have any additional information that would be of use in the investigation, please call the officer in charge.  He is asking for our help.

Thanks,

James

gang tags

Gang tags have appeared overnight a few nights ago.  These are mostly along Coleto, Poquito, and New York.  Here is the link to the photos I took.

If you are concerned about these tags, please email and/or call our District Representative, Officer William Torres #2287, 512-974-5517, William.Torres@austintexas.gov.  Also, please call the Austin Police Department Gang Unit, 512-974-8600 or 512-974-8610.

Also, a call to 311 will get the tags removed or painted over.

Thanks,

James

Spaying and Vaccinations

Emancipet has a mobile spay/neuter and vaccinations truck on the other side of Rosewood Park at the recreation center building parking lot. You can drive there or just walk along the path in the park until you get to the end. You can bring your own pets or if you want to trap any of the wild cats, they will spay, vaccinate, and clip their ears to mark that they were neutered. The truck is there on some Fridays and Saturdays. For more info call 311 or 512-587-7729.

Help Foster Heights Get Google Fiber

Google Fiber is coming to Austin (as if you didn't know), and Lynnea informed me of a website where you can tell Google you are interested in Google Fiber at the 78702 zip code.  Google has said that the priority of installation by zip code will be based on expressed interest.

Here is the link.

Secret Voting

OK, the voting is really not a secret, but given the lack of publicity about the current bond elections, only those who know the secret will vote.

Please go to the Carver Museum and Cultural Center to vote yes or no on four bonds.

Here is the website about early voting.

Here is where to vote.

we need your help

A few of us with kids, and some without, would like the city to install a sun cover at the Rosewood playground.  Lots of parks have them, and the Rosewood playground especially needs the cover because there are no trees nearby.  A call to 311 was forwarded to the Rosewood park recreation office. They are asking for emails for the request.  Please help us out and send emails to:

Good News!

The neighborhood is booming with construction.  A house that was used for selling crack and human trafficking has been sold and is currently demolished down to the studs.  Homes that were boarded up are being renovated, and if that is not possible, they are being demolished and new homes are going up.  Homes that were abandoned have been sold, and architects, builders, and owners are fixing them.  Take a look on New York, Pennsylvania, S.L. Davis, and Coleto, and you will see the progress.

Also, you may have noticed all the police activity around 12th and Chicon.  According to the District Attorney's office, there is a major initiative happening right now to close down the open air drug market and allow for residential and commercial buildings.

Thank you to all you neighbors who have been a part of making this neighborhood a better place for all neighbors.
